I'm really into early Picasso right now. Specifically his 'Blue/Rose' period from 1901-1906. Such emotion and delicate, sparse, fragile beauty. This particular piece, "Two Acrobats with a Dog", is from 1905 and can be seen at the MoMA.

dia: beacon

I finally made it to the Dia:Beacon this past weekend and it is spectaculor. Every last detail is perfect. I would really recommend taking a daytrip there. The train ride takes 1.5 hours, and gives you plenty of time to enjoy the fabulous collection (as well as the grounds- its location is superb). It is a great daytrip that in total costs less than $30.

The shark is coming to the Met. "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living" is being lent to the Met and will arrive before the end of August. It will remain here for 3 years. The Met seems a funny place for it, but I'm glad that it will be on view in the city. Maybe "For the Love of God" will follow?

the frick

I finally went to The Frick earlier this week and came away quite impressed. The estate itself is remarkable, and the collection likewise. The Old Masters are well represented, with a standout Rembrandt self-portrait, and several exquisite Vermeer's. My favorite, though, and quite unexpectedly, was "Vetheuil in Winter" by Monet.

Yes, Claude Monet.
