richard serra

Our summer of spoils continues as Richard Serra's 40 Year Retrospective opens next week at the MoMA. Featuring numerous iconic pieces, plus three new sculptures, the show will occupy the 6th floor, part of the 2nd floor and the Sculpture Garden. You know you are a cultural icon when the MoMA specifies during its renovation that the floors be engineered to support your work.

Will it be another Basquiat Summer? Van de Weghe has a show of him up now, featuring works on paper from 1980-1988. To think, he would be 46 this summer.

sandy winters

Sandy Winters has a fine new show of imaginary landscapes on view now at George Adams Gallery. Her surrealist, erotic work of a world-inside-a-world is well worth exploring.

andy goldsworthy

For his new piece at the Galerie Lelong, Andy Goldsworthy covered the walls with a smooth, white porcelain that over the course of a month will continually crack and peel, eventually falling in chuncks and littering the floor. It is brilliant, and easily the must-see show of the summer.
