wendy white

Chelsea is traditionally dead in the summer, but one show up now worth seeing is Wendy White at Leo Koenig Inc. For her first solo exhibition at the gallery, White shows her debt to Christopher Wool through graffiti-like paintings that present a compositional challenge. Well made and interesting, Autokennel is a cure for the summertime art lacuna.

ricardo lanzarini

I was recently introduced to the work of Ricardo Lanzarini. Primarily working with ink on paper, his "eccentric cast of characters portrays the frustration of the human condition with a great deal of humor and delicacy". He is represented in New York by the Josee Bienvenu Gallery.

the tees valley giants

Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond recently revealed plans for The Tees Valley Giants, a huge public art work to be located in Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar, Hartlepool and Darlington. Temenos, the first of the five pieces to be announced, will "fill what is currently a rather bleak landscape between Middlesbrough's Transporter bridge and the Riverside stadium and, appropriately, at 110m will be as long as a football pitch". This piece alone will cost around £2.7m, while the whole project will involve a cost close to £15m. Easily the largest art project in the world, Balmond hopes to achieve an awe inspiring new landscape.

painting now and forever part ii

Matthew Marks Gallery and Greene Naftali Gallery are co-hosting Painting Now and Forever Part II, a "celebratory survey of contemporary painting". I am unsure of the title, as evidently now and forever roughly translates into every ten years, but nevertheless any show that highlights painters is alright with me.
