Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond recently revealed plans for
The Tees Valley Giants, a huge public art work to be located in Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar, Hartlepool and Darlington.
Temenos, the first of the five pieces to be announced, will "fill what is currently a rather bleak landscape between Middlesbrough's Transporter bridge and the Riverside stadium and, appropriately, at 110m will be as long as a football pitch". This piece alone will cost around £2.7m, while the whole project will involve a cost close to £15m. Easily the largest art project in the world, Balmond hopes to achieve an awe inspiring new landscape.
